Internal and external stone cladding - is there a difference?

By : Site - Categories : News and Tips

Stone cladding looks amazing in almost any home, and it's the perfect complement to any decor style. It also looks great both inside the home and outside. Imagine a guest pulling up to your home to be greeted with a beautiful stone exterior. It's nothing short of impressive. Likewise, imagine showing a guest to your dining area and sitting down next to a beautiful stone wall. It sounds elegant, doesn't it? If you're considering stone either inside or outside of your home, though, you may wonder whether there's a difference between the two types. Actually, there are some differences.

Exterior Stone Cladding:

Any time you apply a material to the outside of your home, you want something that is weather resistant. You need something that won't change as the temperatures increase and decrease and a stone that won't be affected by the rain, wind, or snow. Exterior stone can be of any thickness, but it needs properties that will allow it to withstand various weather conditions. Granite, for example, can stand up to almost anything, as can slate.

Internal stone cladding:

Marble or gypsum based stone cladding, on the other hand, needs to be used only for internal stone cladding because of its properties. The key is to find a stone that can handle the sun, the temperatures, and the moisture.
